Venting and Purging Functions in Gas Manifolds

Venting Function:

During cylinder replacement or maintenance, residual high-pressure gas (especially flammable, explosive, or toxic gases) remaining in the pipeline may cause leaks, explosions, or poisoning incidents if not properly discharged. Venting safely releases residual gas to designated areas (e.g., ventilation systems or treatment facilities).

  1. Pressure Balance:
Before replacing cylinders, residual pressure remains in the metal hoses. Venting prevents equipment damage or operational risks caused by sudden pressure changes, such as balancing system pressure during cylinder switching.

  2. Ensuring Gas Purity:
After cylinder replacement, residual air or contaminants introduced during cylinder connection (e.g., dust) can severely pollute high-purity gases. Venting mitigates this risk.

Operational Workflow:

  • Before Cylinder Replacement:

Close the three-way valve upstream of the pressure regulator and open the vent valves on both sides to discharge residual gas.

  • After Cylinder Replacement:

Open the vent valves for 5–10 seconds to expel air and contaminants. Then, open the pressure regulator valve to resume normal operation.

Purging Function:

The purging function is primarily used for flammable/explosive gases, toxic/corrosive gases, etc. During equipment maintenance, pipelines must be thoroughly cleared of gas to ensure safety. This is typically achieved by using inert gas (e.g., nitrogen) to discharge residual gas.

  • Contaminant Removal:
Moisture, particles, or chemical residues in pipelines can contaminate gases. Purging effectively eliminates these pollutants.

  • Deposit Clearance:
Long-term use may lead to the accumulation of impurities or corrosion byproducts in pipelines. Purging reduces equipment wear and extends service life.

  • Clog Prevention:
Moisture or contaminants may freeze or block pipelines under low temperatures. Purging maintains pipeline dryness and smooth flow.
