Gas cylinders are basic equipments to gas users. It's extremely important to ensure safty during usage and storage. Here are some primary regulations :
1. Gas cylinders must be dedicated for specific gas and shall not be modified to store other gases.
2. Gas cylinders must be stored in dedicated gas cylinder storage rooms outside laboratories.
3.Cylinder storage rooms are prohibited from being located near ignition sources, heat sources, electrical equipment, or corrosive environments.
4. Explosion-proof switches and light shall not be used in gas cylinder storage rooms. Flames are strictly prohibited in surrounding areas.
5. Cylinder storage rooms must be equipped with ventilation systems to maintain cool temperatures. Ventilation shall be installed at the top of the room to prevent hydrogen accumulation.
6. Flammable/explosive gas cylinders must be isolated from oxidizing gas cylinders (e.g., oxygen and acetylene cylinders must not be stored together during simultaneous use).
7. Storage rooms for hydrogen and nitrogen cylinders must implement ventilation measures providing a minimum of three times of air changes per hour.
8. Cylinder valves, connection threads, pressure regulators, and other accessories must remain intact and functional. Leakage, stripped threads, loose pressure gauge indicators, or other hazards are prohibited. Pressure gauges for different gas types must not be mix used.
9. Gas cylinders must be stored and used in an upright position. For mobile applications with frequent relocation, cylinders must be secured on dedicated carts to prevent tipping. Horizontal storage or usage is strictly prohibited.
10. Empty cylinders must be relocated to a dedicated empty cylinder storage area and clearly labeled. Mixing empty and filled cylinders in storage is forbidden.
11. Gas cylinders must not be fully depleted; a residual pressure must be maintained to ensure safe handling.
12. Gas cylinders must undergo periodic inspections and must not exceed their specific service life. Inspection cycles are as follows:
- Oxygen, acetylene, and liquefied petroleum gas cylinders: 3 years.
- Xenon and fluorine gas cylinders: 5 years.
